bulbos, Infl. bis 10 cm hoch. Coll. Hemcker
{Tillandsia, bulbous, inflorescence up to 10 cm tall}»
Name(s) of accession: Tillandsia hemkeri   Tropicos
Collected part: herbarium specimen
Gathering date: 1973
Location (Entry): «Puyo–Banos, bei Shell Mera, Dptm. Tungurahua, Ekuador {between Puyo and Baños, near Shell Mera, Prov. Tungurahua, Ecuador}»

Ecuador (EC), Provincia Pastaza, Cantón Mera, Parroquia Shell, next inhabited place Shell
Environement: «epiphytisch {epiphytic}»
from 1000 m.s.m. to 1500 m.s.m.
Estimated precision of locality data: ±5 km
Location comment (Entry): On holotype specimen and in the protologue Rauh cites Provicia Tungurahua for the locus classicus and an elevation of 1.000 msm. On the way from Puyo (Prov. Pastaza) to Baños (Prov. Tungurahua) the whole part of the way in Prov. Tungurahua reaches elevations higher than 1.200 msm. In the field book the elevation is cited as «1500 m», which corresponds to the elevations in Prov. Tungurahua. But most likely the type of Tillandsia hemkeri was collected in Prov. Pastaza on an elevation of 1.000 msm, as the Parroquia Shell, the locus classicus, is situated at an elevation of 1.000 –1.050 msm. Coordinates were taken from the point where highway E30 crosses the 1.000 msm contour line. That's ca. 1 km E of Shell. [CNS 2018-08-22]
